Actor Eric Dane has revealed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The 52-year-old actor shared the news in an exclusive statement to People on April 10, 2025, expressing gratitude for the support of his family during this challenging time.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” Dane stated. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.” He is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, and together they share two daughters, Billie Beatrice (15) and Georgia Geraldine (13).

Despite the serious nature of the illness, Dane remains committed to his career. He is set to return to the set of Euphoria on April 14 to film its highly anticipated third season.
Understanding ALS and Its Impact
ALS is a rare and incurable neurological condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to progressive muscle weakness and eventual paralysis. As the disease advances, patients often lose their ability to speak, eat, walk, and breathe independently.
According to medical experts, life expectancy following an ALS diagnosis typically ranges from three to five years, though some individuals live for much longer. Notable figures such as Stephen Hawking and Roberta Flack have also battled the disease.
Dane’s announcement sheds light on the challenges faced by those living with ALS. While there is no cure, ongoing research aims to understand the condition better and develop potential treatments. By sharing his diagnosis publicly, Dane hopes to raise awareness about ALS and its impact on individuals and families.
