Phoenix Ikner is a 20-year-old student at Florida State University who has been identified as the gunman in the recent shooting on the FSU campus in Tallahassee.
He is the son of Leon County Sheriff’s Deputy Jessica Ikner and was known as a long-standing member of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Youth Advisory Council.
The shooting occurred near the FSU Student Union shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to at least five or six others.
Authorities confirmed that Phoenix Ikner used one of his mother’s firearms, a handgun, during the attack and was also found in possession of a shotgun. He was apprehended on campus with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot by first responders and is currently hospitalized in custody.
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation. The incident has left the FSU campus community in shock, with law enforcement agencies continuing their investigation and the campus area around the Student Union remaining an active crime scene.
