Bernie Sanders says US is ‘living in a moment of extraordinary danger’

Senator Bernie Sanders has issued a stark warning about the state of the United States under President Donald Trump, describing the current moment as one of “extraordinary danger.” Speaking at a massive rally in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday as part of his “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, Sanders emphasized the growing threat of authoritarianism, corporate dominance, and economic inequality in the country.

Addressing a crowd of 36,000—his largest rally to date—Sanders accused Trump of steering the nation toward an oligarchic and authoritarian society. “Mr. Trump is moving this country rapidly toward an authoritarian form of society,” Sanders declared, energizing attendees at Grand Park.

He urged Americans to resist despair and take action, stating, “Despair is not an option. Giving up and hiding under the covers is not acceptable. The stakes are just too high.”

Sanders criticized Trump’s policies, including his escalation of tariffs and his alleged favouritism toward billionaires, which he claims have exacerbated economic inequality and undermined democratic norms.

He warned that the influence of billionaires like Elon Musk has transformed America into a “pseudo-democracy,” where corporate interests dominate political processes. Sanders also expressed concern over Trump’s rhetoric about pursuing a third term in office, calling it a serious threat to constitutional governance.

The rally featured prominent progressive figures such as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), who denounced Trump’s economic policies as corrupt schemes benefiting corporate cronies. Musical performances by Neil Young, Joan Baez, and Maggie Rogers added to the event’s celebratory yet urgent tone.

Sanders’ tour continues to draw large crowds across the country, highlighting public frustration with rising inequality and fears of eroding democratic values. As he rallies against oligarchy and authoritarianism, Sanders has positioned himself as a leading voice for progressive resistance in what he calls a critical moment in American history.
