Ex-AFL Agent Ricky Nixon Arrested Over Alleged Social Media Threats to Police

Former AFL player agent Ricky Nixon was arrested on Thursday morning outside his Port Melbourne apartment after allegedly making threats towards police on social media. The 62-year-old, once a high-profile figure in Australian football, reportedly posted the threats on his Facebook account, including statements interpreted as threats to kill police.

Police responded swiftly to the online posts, taking Nixon into custody for questioning. During the arrest, Nixon, who claimed to have an injured shoulder, pleaded with officers to be “gentle” as they handcuffed him. In his defence, Nixon told police that his social media account had been hacked.

Nixon’s arrest adds to a lengthy list of controversies that have followed him since his days as a player and leading AFL agent. His past includes a series of legal troubles and scandals, such as an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old schoolgirl, a guilty plea for insulting an ex-partner, and accusations of selling fake football memorabilia. He was also previously accused of kneeing a police officer during a court appearance related to assault charges.

Currently, Nixon is serving a community corrections order after being found guilty in June 2024 of unlawful assault and discharging a missile. That conviction stemmed from an incident in March 2022, when he punched and kicked an Australia Post worker before throwing a package at him.

Police continue to investigate the latest allegations as Nixon remains in custody for further questioning.
