Wes Moore is the current Governor of Maryland, serving as the state’s 63rd governor since January 2023. He is a Democrat, a combat veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, a Rhodes Scholar, a bestselling author, and the former CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation, a major anti-poverty nonprofit.
Moore was born in Takoma Park, Maryland, and raised partly in the Bronx before returning to Maryland as a teenager. He earned degrees from Valley Forge Military College, Johns Hopkins University, and Oxford University.
Moore is Maryland’s first Black governor and only the third African American elected governor of any U.S. state. He is known for his leadership during major crises, such as the recovery efforts following the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore. Before entering politics, Moore worked in finance, founded a company supporting college students, and wrote several books, including the bestseller “The Other Wes Moore.”
Recently, actor George Clooney publicly endorsed Wes Moore as a top contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, praising his intelligence, military service, crisis management, and experience leading a major philanthropic organisation. Clooney called Moore a “proper leader” and suggested he is someone Democrats could rally behind in the next presidential election cycle
